The highest and heaviest stele in Vietnam

It is the stele at Tu Duc tomb – Khiem Lang in Hue, the stele was erected in 1875 and made of integral granite from Thanh Hoa district (and called Thanh stone). This stele is considered as national treasures and placed in Bia temple – a architectural construction which was made of brick, its roof was propped by 4 brick pole with 125 cm diameter, perimeter of pole at foot is 205 cm. Four sides have level for observation.

According to Hue monuments conservation centre, the stele has the weight about 22 tons with the height is 407 cm and the width is 259 cm. The stele’s forehead is 97 cm high, 287, 5 cm wide, the two sides flank of the upper is 22 cm wide. The thickest part is 48 cm. It was recognized as the highest and heaviest stele in Vietnam.
 
This stele gathers all the characteristic features of Nguyen dynasty’s memoir by stele. It has the rectangle shape with the forehead shape is cloud - shaped gong, four side has the reached flank. Stele was placed on a pedestal that is 100 cm high, d 309 cm wide, 162, 5 cm thick. This pedestal is a “Thanh” integral stone with the form of kneeling and detailed carving art. Outside of the pedestal was craved with cloud, dragon and tiger design. The stele was craved with words on both sides including 2.319 Khai - style words on the front and 2.537 Hanh – style words on behind.
 
On the stele’s body was craved with 4.854 words in which Khiem cung ky is considered as the review of King Tu Duc because in this memoir the King indicated many his defect. The Khiem cung ky includes 5 part implement mentioned to the monument construction, described the tomb’s landscape, his emotion to country. The first part is about the King ‘s childhood, the second part is his country’s management, the third part is the description of Khiem lang (the monument), the fourth is his confession of simple wishes. And the last one is the clear explanation of Khiem cung ky content.
