With the 70 km length running from northern estuary O Lau to the foot of Vinh Phong mountain, the system of Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon’s total area is about 248, 7 square meter occupying a half of total coastal area of Vietnam.

 

Tam Giang lagoon is 52 square meter length, running from O Lau to Huong estuary, 2,5 km average width and 1,6 km depth, slope down toward Huong estuary. Sam and Thuy Tu lagoon is 33 km width, running from Huong estuary to Cau Hai lagoon, 1km average width, like a cannal slope down toward the south, the depth is from 1,5 to 2 km, the surface area is 60 square meter. Cau Hai lagoon is very large with area is 104 square meter, 13 km length, the bottom is quite rough but has the shape of hollow semicircle stretching from Truoi estuary to the foot of Vinh Phong mountain, the depth is from 1 to 1,5 m toward Da Bac, the deepest point is 3 m.

 

Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon’s system has diverse biodiversity, it has been said as the biological musuem. Beside the economic value  and regulating the coastal ecosystem, Tam giang – Cau hai is also a characteristic tourism. The lagoon stretchs in immense space with calm blue water, giant white dune of sand, grassy marshes are shelter of many kinds of bird…

 

Cau Hai lagoon as vast as sea, adorned with islets, Bach Ma, Linh Thai mountain are looming in distance. Thuy Tu lagoon is quiet as river in summer, connect from Cau Hai to northern watery area winding around Tam giang lagoon. From here, with the pure poetic water of Huong river up to ancient Hue city.
