Lau Ngu Phung (Five Phoenix Pavilion) has two storey, the first floor is large and the upper is small. The pavilion has iron wooden (Lim wood) structure with roof tiled by nine sets of yellow and green enameled tiles in ying – yang style. The five phoenix was built on a 1,4 m high platform. It has 100 pillars in which 48 long ones that support two floors. The number 100 represents the 50 ying and 50 yang showing the harmony.

The roof is divided to nine different sets with the middle roof is higher than 8 others. The lower floor is empty. Compared with Forbidden purple city in China, the distance from Thien An Mon square to the Ngo Mon gate is very large. Thien An Mon has 5 gates represents to the five elements, but its look is cold, grand and gloomy. While Ngo Mon in Hue has ponds, lakes, it is the harmony between plant and water. The wise Kings brought the nature into architecture as honed stone, brick, decorated with flowers ... it made the Ngo Mon architecture becomes elegance, it is also the creative architecture of Nguyen dynasty.

Enameled tile was bought in French by King Thanh Thai. The big bell was casted under  Minh Mang dynasty in 1822. We also see a paintingss of mandarins at Ngo Mon. Other side is a list of all the doctorates under Nguyen Dynasty. There were 32 examinations, the first one took place in 1822, and the final one was in 1919 in with 293 doctorates.
In feudal reign there was a rule that once you pass Ngo Mon you had to take off your hat and dismount.
